Case study: Bardejov Community Foundation (Slovakia)

When the foundation applied to the Stronger Roots programme, it was undergoing significant internal change. A long-time director who had led the foundation for twenty years and built a wide network of contacts in local politics was stepping down. A young woman from an arts background stepped into the leadership role, needing time to find her footing in the new position. She had the support of a younger colleague who had been working at the foundation on and off for several years. After two decades of operation, the need for change became evident. The board of trustees and other voices from the community pointed out that the foundation lacked public visibility. The foundation team felt the need to better understand the current needs of the community they served and to clearly define how to respond to them.
