Reconstruction of the State – Year Two

Year of granting the aid: 2014
Realisation date: 02.06.2014 – 31.05.2015

Organization: Frank Bold Society

Reconstruction of the State addresses the issue of system political corruption and misuse of public funds in the Czech Republic. In order to initiate any meaningful change in this area, it is necessary to set up clear rules that will reduce opportunities for corruption and functioning of clientelist networks, which are often behind local as well as major corruption scandals. Pushing for such rules is what Reconstruction of the State aims for, with the main objective being adoption of nine key anti-corruption laws. These laws had been selected and agreed upon by twenty Czech anti-corruption NGOs that together form the Reconstruction of the State coalition. These organizations not only provide the necessary expertise for the nine selected topics, but are also a source of legitimacy of the project and create the public pressure necessary for adoption of the laws. In addition to the expert work, other activities that had proved to be useful during the first year of the project will be carried out—ongoing media work, involving active citizens and local civil society organizations into the project, and (most importantly) direct communication with relevant decision-makers. In doing so, the project aims not only at the adoption of anti-corruption legislation but also at fostering a constructive dialogue between political representatives and civil society members.
